Our state-of-the-art solutions provide continuous, real-time monitoring, ensuring the safety of your assets and personnel. With a focus on innovation and reliability, every system is tailored to meet the unique challenges of your site.
The four CCTV options, and when each is right
Site CCTV is not one product. The right choice depends on whether the site has power, how long the system needs to stay up, whether anyone is monitoring it, and what you need the footage for. These are the four we install most often.
Wired CCTV
A fixed, cabled installation running on the site’s mains supply. It suits sites where the layout is settled, the compound is not moving, and the system needs to run for the duration of the project.
The advantages are reliability and image quality. There is no battery to manage, no signal to drop, and bandwidth is not a limiting factor, so higher resolution and continuous recording are straightforward. Where a site has a permanent office or gatehouse, the recorder can sit there with local storage as well as remote access.
The trade-off is flexibility. Cabling takes time to install and is disruptive to move, so a wired system is the wrong answer for a perimeter that will shift as the works phase, or for a site where cameras need to follow the plant.
Wireless CCTV
Self-contained units, typically solar or battery supported with a mobile data connection, that can be positioned anywhere on site and relocated as the works progress.
This is the usual answer during enabling works and early phases, when there is no mains supply and the site layout changes week to week. Units can be repositioned in minutes, which matters when a compound moves or a new area of exposure opens up. They are also the practical option for a site with no power at all, where the alternative is a generator running purely to support security.
Site conditions decide whether it works. Heavy shading, deep cuttings and poor mobile coverage all reduce performance, and we would rather tell you that during the survey than install something that struggles by November. Where a site suits it, wireless removes both the cabling and the power draw.
Timelapse cameras
A different purpose entirely. Timelapse is a project record rather than a security measure, capturing the build at set intervals to produce a dated photographic history and a finished sequence at handover.
Its practical value is evidential as much as promotional. A dated image of the site on a particular morning settles disputes about sequencing, access, damage and when work actually started in an area. Clients also use the footage for progress reporting, marketing and stakeholder updates.
It is worth specifying alongside security CCTV rather than instead of it: a timelapse camera is not monitored and will not alert anyone to an intrusion.
Scaffolding alarms
Scaffolding is the most common way onto a part-built structure, and it is attractive to more than thieves — it is what children climb. Scaffold alarms detect movement and unauthorised access on the structure itself and trigger a local audible warning and a remote alert.
They close a gap that cameras often miss. A camera covering the compound may not see someone entering the scaffold at the rear elevation, and the consequences of that access are more serious than the loss of materials. On sites bounded by housing or a public footway, the alarm frequently prevents the incident rather than recording it.
Alarms work best as part of a layered arrangement: the alarm detects, the camera evidences, and a patrol or officer responds. An alarm with nobody to respond to it is a noise.
Temporary CCTV for construction sites
Most construction CCTV is temporary by definition: it goes up for the duration of a project and comes down at handover. That changes what matters. Installation speed, the ability to relocate as the site phases, and independence from services that may not be connected yet all outrank the specification sheet.
A temporary system should be deployable in hours, movable in minutes, and self-powered where the site has no supply. It should also be removable without leaving anything behind, because a tower bolted to a slab that is about to be broken out is somebody’s problem later. Rental rather than purchase usually makes sense for the same reason — the equipment is needed for a defined window and then it is not.
We cover the practical side in temporary CCTV for construction sites and how to deploy CCTV quickly, and there is a Southampton-specific piece for sites in our home area.
Choosing a system, and what to compare
Comparison is difficult because suppliers quote different things. A useful specification names the number and type of cameras and what each actually covers, the power arrangement and what happens when it fails, whether recording is local, remote or both and for how long, whether monitoring is included and during which hours, what the response is on an activation, and who installs, maintains and removes it.
The most common reason a system disappoints is not equipment quality. It is cameras positioned to look impressive rather than to cover the approaches, or monitoring sold without a response attached. We go through the field in our construction site camera review and remote monitored CCTV review.
Monitoring and response
Any of these can be recorded only, or remotely monitored so that an activation reaches a person. Monitoring is what converts a camera from an evidence tool into a preventive one, and it should be specified with a defined response: who is called, in what order, and what happens on arrival. That is agreed with you and written into the assignment instructions before installation.
Common questions
Is the CCTV actually monitored, or just recorded?
Either, and the difference is the whole value. Recorded-only gives you evidence after the event. Monitored means an operator assesses an activation as it happens and the agreed escalation runs. We explain the distinction in what remote CCTV monitoring does.
Does the site need power or internet?
Not for wireless units. They are solar or battery supported with their own mobile data connection, which is why they suit enabling works and sites where services are not yet connected. Wired systems do need a supply and suit settled layouts.
How quickly can cameras be on site?
Wireless units can usually be deployed within a few days, and faster where a site has just been hit. Wired installation takes longer because it involves cabling. We will give you a real date rather than a headline one.
What happens when a camera detects someone at 3am?
An operator assesses the activation before anyone is dispatched, which is what stops foxes and moving vegetation generating call-outs all night. Where it is genuine, the escalation agreed with you runs — audio warning where supported, attendance, police where appropriate, and your out-of-hours contact.
Can cameras be moved as the site changes?
Wireless units, yes, in minutes, and that is usually the point of choosing them. Wired systems are disruptive to move, which is why they suit a settled compound rather than a shifting perimeter.
Do we rent or buy?
For a project of defined length, rental almost always makes sense: the equipment is needed for a window, and maintenance, replacement and removal sit with us rather than with you.
Will CCTV alone protect the site?
It depends on the site, and we would rather say so than sell you a system that documents your losses. Cameras cannot intervene. On a site being actively targeted, or one with complex sightlines and heavy vegetation, cameras belong alongside officers or patrols rather than instead of them.
Discuss your site
We survey the site before quoting. Sightlines, power, mobile coverage, the approaches and any history of intrusion determine which of the four you actually need, and it is frequently a combination rather than one.
